An Indonesian man has been arrested after he streamed a Japanese pornographic film on a large electronic public billboard last week on a busy road in national capital, Jakarta which shocked the motorists.

The 24-year-old IT analyst, Samudera Al Hakam Ralial was apprehended in a police raid at his company office on Tuesday (October 04). Ralial has admitted his crime of hacking into the IT system of the billboard operator but claims that the broadcast of the porn movie was accidental as he did not realize it was uploaded to the billboard. The police said that the crime can lead up to six years of imprisonment or a fine of 1 billion rupiah ($77,000; £60,000) or the Pornography Law, which carries a prison sentence of up to 12 years.

The suspect told police he saw the login name and password of the computer system which controls the display on the screen after it had approached the video billboard last week and thought of carrying out a prank.

According to police, the suspect took a photo of the information with his mobile phone. When he got back to his office, he logged into the computer system, accessed a porn site and started playing a film.

The porn film ran for five minutes on September 30 after which the power was eventually cut. However, the clip and photos were already circulated on social media which trended under the hashtag #videotron.

Police couldn’t find the photo of the computer’s ID and password on the suspect’s mobile phone, and they haven’t found any evidence billboard’s operator had displayed the log-in information for the computer that controlled it.

The police are still investigating if the man worked alone or had links with some mischievous group which had some particular motive behind the act.

Access to pornographic websites is blocked in Muslim-majority Indonesia, which has also banned popular websites like Tumblr and Vimeo for presenting adult content.
